Regfinder The Number Plate Search Engine - History & Facts
Regfinder is a number plate 'search engine' specially designed to find matching words in UK number plates that someone might want to put on their vehicle. It works on a pattern matching system which we developed ourselves to work out the closest match of characters in the search word against the characters in the cherished number plates that could possibly be available to buy.
Regfinder's number plate search engine was originally designed just to interrogate the DVLA Registrations list of available number plates, since then Regfinder now includes all number plates for auction on eBay UK and Regtrader, a facility for number plate brokers and private registration sellers to advertise their registration numbers on Regfinder. So as long as anyone selling a number plate has listed it on Regfinder it'll get included in it's number plate search.
Regfinder was launched in January 2009, it took about 2 years to develop (in our spare time).
It is designed to make searching for personalised number plates as easy and cheap to buy as possible. We get our data straight from DVLA Regsitrations, eBay and brokers, we then do some work on it then present it in a simple way to let anyone skim through and find the words you want to put on your number plate. Nearly all of it is automated, so any errors or omissions are down to the human element of Regfinder or errors in the data we've been given.
No investment money or anything else was borrowed to make Regfinder work. It is independent, privately funded and not affiliated with any other company.
